We are just five minutes from beautiful Ashland, Oregon, a quaint, artistic town that offers many amenities. The abundance of great restaurants, eclectic shops, and distinctive art galleries will satisfy shoppers and Epicureans alike. If you truly want to pamper yourself, book a massage at one of Ashland's luxurious day spas, and then take an easy stroll through lovely Lithia Park, the jewel of Ashland.
Your horse riding holiday begins at The Flying L Ranch, an 11 acre spread with a beautiful turn-of the-century Farmhouse and three adjoining cottages on a working horse ranch. Farmhouse and Cottages are tastefully decorated, elegant yet unpretentious, with cozy queen size beds in most of the rooms. Vacations include a continental breakfast and a complimentary wine reception upon arrival featuring southern Oregon wines.
You will spend one day riding the Pacific Crest Trail, the crown jewel of America's scenic trails, spanning 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada. This trail is a subdued volcanic landscape with a gentle crest that is fairly constant in elevation. The volcanoes punctuate the skyline as you ride through towering fir forests, sunlit oak groves, wildflower-strewn meadows and steep canyons. The riding route winds through a spectacular variety of rare and beautiful species of plants and animals, and crosses pristine streams flowing with trout. With the convergence of three mountain ranges, this area is an archeological and ecological wonder, with biologic and climatic diversity unmatched in the Cascade Range.
Another day's ride in the California Redwoods will take us two hours away for an afternoon trek through the world's tallest trees, an awe-inspiring cathedral of soaring ancient redwoods. Imagine a world of magnificent forest trails, unrivalled by any bridle path, meandering through untouched lofty groves. Feel the peace and reverence, while high above sunlight filters through the canopy like a great stained glass window.
The next morning, we will ride on miles of sandy beaches, along the rugged, wave-swept Pacific shore. Watch the solitary pelican dipping its wings in the pounding surf while the morning mist evaporates in the warmth of the sun. You will behold jutting monolithic rocks with barking seals and floating seagulls, and gallop along the undulating dunes.
Your equestrian adventure will also take you to the Lily Glen and Sky Lakes Wilderness, a genuinely magical place to ride. If you'd like, we can make it an overnight under the stars, and camp out in this gorgeous equestrian recreation locale near Howard Prairie Lake. The area features many scenic trails, and we will ride around the lake, trot into the trees, and canter across forest meadows, complete with jumps if you want to try them out!
One day is dedicated to one of the best rafting adventures of your life! The Wild and Scenic Upper Klamath river is one of the most fun and exciting whitewater trips in Oregon, not to mention one of the premiere rafting trips in the entire world. This is a great trip for first timers to seasoned rafters. The unspoiled beauty of the canyon, class four rapids, great trout fishing and abundant wildlife make this a great side trip. Bring your binoculars, for the Klamath river is located in the Pacific Flyway, a major migratory route for many varieties of birds like golden and bald eagles, osprey, pelicans, green and blue herons, and Canadian geese. If you want in a more laid-back, leisurely rafting experience, then the Rogue River with its Class 1 rapids is just right.
Another day is a day to relax and rejuvenate with a massage at one of the area's luxurious day spas. We'll go on a wine tour. The Mediterranean climate in the Rogue Valley sustains a wide range of flavorful grapes. Increasingly recognized for distinctive vintages, southern Oregon is truly a wine maker's paradise and a region coming into its own.
